Conversion of 125/230 Vac Control System to 24 Vac Control System
to allow use of the new DITIGAL PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTATS:

diagram of heating-cooling wallplate

All you will need is to add a low voltage transformer (20 to 40 VA 125V/24Vac or 230/24Vac) and up to three (possibly more for two stages of cooling or heating) inexpensive relays with 24 Vac coils and just one each NO (normally open) spst (single pole single throw) contacts. If the old thermostat had just one "hot" wire coming to it, then just connect that hot wire to each of the three relay contacts as shown by the red wire lines. If it had two "hot" wires, then one of them will connect to the heat relay contacts and the other will connect to the cooling relay contacts and possibly also to the fan control relay contacts.

Remove the old 125 Vac wires (shown in orange) from the old thermostat and put them to the other side of the new relays. In other words, remove the wires shown in orange and make them go from the new relay contacts to the controlled devices as before.
