THINGS TO CHECK IF THE FAN MAKES NOISE BUT WAS OKAY FOR COOLING AND CONSTANT FAN:

MOST LIKELY CAUSES:

  • A different speed for heat is usually used from the one for cooling. The constant fan speed is usually the same one as for cooling. The newer units with the electronic control modules often use a very low speed for the constant run speed though.

So, the real problem is only accentuated by the use of the lower speeds. Chances are the bearings are worn and it creates noise when the motor turns slow. Try using a higher speed and see if it helps.

See the section for Cooling called The indoor fan won't start or makes noise.

LESS LIKELY CAUSES:

  • Vibrations can appear at different speeds, so try it on another speed and see if it goes away.
